ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In only 11 weeks, Securian Financial Group launched three mobile sites that meet demands for access and security from the company’s clientele and distribution networks. One provides account access for Securian retirement plan participants from their smartphones. Another is a corporate portal that provides account access for the company’s many businesses as their mobile sites are launched. The third is an element of a national advisor recruiting campaign, “The Securian Advantage,” that reaches advisor candidates with their favorite communication device – the smartphone.

“Secure access to corporate and personal data from smartphones is no longer a ‘want,’ but a ‘need,’” said Mike Gonzo, Securian’s manager of design communications. “People now expect secure access to key information whether they’re at the airport, the mall or sitting in front of the TV.”

Gonzo says Securian’s mobile sites, designed and built entirely in-house, do not attempt to replicate all the information on the company’s web sites. Rather, they provide the information people want frequently and quickly.

“We pushed the account contact links up to the top of the screen, kept the copy concise, included one-touch imbedded links and made the navigation simple and intuitive,” he said. Also, because a large percentage of Securian’s clientele is baby boomers, the fonts are comparatively large.

Securian’s corporate site was activated in January, Securian Retirement unveiled its account access site in December, and the site for The Securian Advantage went mobile in October. Another business unit, Securian Financial Institution Group, is in the testing stage of launching the fourth Securian site. The mobile sites show up automatically when viewed from a smartphone.

“Like all web-based technologies, our mobile sites will remain works in progress,” said Gonzo. “We will keep up with client demand and provide the mobile services and information they need, when they need it.”

Since 1880, Securian Financial Group and its affiliates have provided financial security for individuals and businesses in the form of insurance, investments and retirement plans. Now one of the nation’s largest financial services providers, it is the holding company parent of a group of companies that include Minnesota Life Insurance Company and Securian Life Insurance Company, a New York admitted insurer.
